The delightful Kristen Wiig, who's shone in dozens of supporting roles and on Saturday Night Live, hits a bull's-eye with her first lead role in Bridesmaids. Annie (Kristen Wiig) isn't doing so well; her bakery failed and she keeps sleeping with a good-looking louse (Jon Hamm, Mad Men), but she's always had her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph, Away We Go) to buoy her up… until Lillian gets engaged. Annie becomes maid of honor, but another friend of Lillian's--the rich and lovely Helen (Rose Byrne, Get Him to the Greek)--wants to take over that position. Misadventures with bad Brazilian food, dress fittings, an unfortunate flight to Vegas, and a sympathetic traffic cop (Chris O'Dowd from British TV comedy The IT Crowd) follow, with increasingly hilarious results. Bridesmaids successfully balances raunchy comedy and character portrait. The embarrassing and socially catastrophic stuff, which in too many movies balloons into absurdity, is here kept in check just enough to allow Annie (Kristen Wiig) and the other characters to be multidimensional people--without the movie losing its comic capacity for cringe. (Actress Melissa McCarthy, of Mike & Molly, works miracles with a character than in most hands would be pure cartoon.) Kristen Wiig's enormous appeal keeps Annie sympathetic, even as she becomes more and more of a train wreck. Bridesmaids is both smart and dumb, raunchy and earnest, and altogether enjoyable.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I is a brooding, slower-paced film than its predecessors, the result of being just one half of the final story. Because the penultimate film is all buildup before the final showdown between the teen wizard and the evil Voldemort (which does not occur until The Deathly Hallows, Part II), Part I is a road-trip movie, a heist film, a lot of exposition, and more weight on its three young leads, who up until now were sufficiently supported by a revolving door of British thesps throughout the series. Now that all the action takes place outside Hogwarts--no more Potions classes, Gryffindor scarves, or Quidditch matches--Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), and Rupert Grint (Ron) shoulder the film almost entirely on their own. After a near-fatal ambush by Voldemort's Death Eaters, the three embark on a quest to find and destroy the remaining five horcruxes (objects that store pieces of Voldemort's soul). Fortunately, as the story gets more grave--and parents should be warned, there are some scenes too frightening or adult for young children--so does the intensity. David Yates, who directed the Harry Potter films Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince, drags the second half a little, but right along with some of the slower moments are some touching surprises (Harry leading Hermione in a dance, the return of Dobby in a totally non-annoying way). Deathly Hallows, Part I will be the most confusing for those not familiar with the Potter lore, particularly in the shorthand way characters and terminology weave in and out. For the rest of us, though, watching these characters over the last decade and saying farewell to a few faces makes it all bittersweet that the end is near (indeed, an early scene in which Hermione casts a spell that makes her Muggle parents forget her existence, in case she doesn't return, is particularly emotional). Despite its challenges, Deathly Hallows, Part I

succeeds in what it's most meant to do: whet your appetite for the grand conclusion to the Harry Potter series.

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie use their star power to help propel The Tourist to its ultimate, satisfying destination. It just takes a little while to get there. Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) sets a leisurely pace for The Tourist, which lets the film be equal parts mystery, romance, thriller, and comedy. But because of its lush cinematography and location-based shooting, The Tourist is perhaps first and foremost a valentine to the city of Venice. Jolie plays Elise, an international woman of mystery, somehow caught up with a glamorous thief who's double-crossed a gangster, Shaw (Steven Berkoff, splendidly menacing). On a train from Paris to Venice, Elise meets Frank (Depp), a schlumpy math teacher from Wisconsin on holiday. Before the train hits Venice, poor Frank has become entangled in a dangerous web that he can't begin to understand. As the plot unfolds, a group of stone-headed thugs dashes after Frank and Elise, darting through canals, across tile rooftops, and into some of the most beautiful hotel rooms in the world. The cinematography of John Seale and the score by James Newton Howard set an immersive tone. Depp and Jolie do a respectable job with their roles, though perhaps because of the mysteries in the plot, as a couple, Elise and Frank lack a certain oomph. But the supporting actors, including Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton, and Rufus Sewell, are uniformly excellent, and the story (based on the French film Anthony Zimmer) wraps up nicely. Yet the true star of The Tourist is enchanting Venice--and anyone dreaming of a romantic getaway will not want to miss this trip.

As he did with the occupation of Iraq in No End in Sight, Charles Ferguson shines a light on the global financial crisis in Inside Job. Accompanied by narration from Matt Damon, Ferguson begins and ends in Iceland, a flourishing country that gave American-style banking a try--and paid the price. Then he looks at the spectacular rise and cataclysmic fall of deregulation in the United States. Unlike Alex Gibney's fiscal films, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and Casino Jack, Ferguson builds his narrative around dozens of players, interviewing authors, bank managers, government ministers, and even a psychotherapist, who speaks to a culture that encourages Gordon Gekko-like behavior, but the number of those who declined to comment, like Alan Greenspan, is even larger. Though the director isn't as combative as Michael Moore, he asks tough questions and elicits squirms from several participants, notably former Treasury secretary David McCormick and Columbia dean Glenn Hubbard, George W. Bush's economic adviser. Their reactions are understandable, since the borders between Wall Street, Washington, and the Ivy League dissolved years ago; it's hard to know who to trust when conflicts of interest run rampant. If Ferguson takes Reagan and Bush to task for tax cuts that benefit the wealthy, he criticizes Clinton for encouraging derivatives and Obama for failing to deliver on the promise of reform. And in the category of unlikely heroes: former governor Eliot Spitzer, who fought against fraud as New York's attorney general.

There is, according to Burlesque, a nightclub on the Sunset Strip that looks like a blend of Cabaret and Moulin Rouge and employs a full contingent of dancers and musicians in the service of a neo-retro-burlesque-blues program. Presiding over the craziness within is Tess, a grande dame who also performs occasionally and who could only, under these circumstances, be played by Cher. Entering the scene is a young leather-lunged hopeful from Iowa named Ali, played by Christina Aguilera in her movie-acting debut. The vibe of this glitzy concoction is more Flashdance than Showgirls, despite prerelease predictions that the film would be a campfest of epic proportions. In fact, it's more cornball than trashy. Ali hits most of the clichés of the genre: defying Tess's skepticism by proving her mettle during an impromptu stage number; flirting with the nice-guy bartender (Cam Gigandet, of Twilight) whose home she shares for a while, in a purely platonic way, of course, just until she gets her feet on the ground; and keeping a wary eye on the high roller (Eric Dane, of Grey's Anatomy) who wants to possess her, because, you see, he takes whatever he likes. And did we mention that Tess is facing foreclosure on the club in a month's time? Seriously, you didn't see that coming? Writer-director Steve Antin has no embarrassment about putting any of this across, which may be why it all feels weirdly innocent, if relentlessly silly. Stanley Tucci revives his gay assistant from The Devil Wears Prada, Alan Cumming lurks about in an undefined role that might well have been filmed months after everybody else, and Kristen Bell enjoys a few wicked-witch moments as Ali's main rival. Aguilera, needless to say, belts out her songs as only someone with a very large voice can, and Cher stops the show with an old-fashioned torch song ("You Haven't Seen the Last of Me") that is clearly designed as a roof-raiser. (And, by gum, it works.) This is a ridiculous movie, but it gets points for never claiming to be anything else.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a finger-blistering time capsule of right now, yet in a hundred years it will still be so crammed with charm, wit, brio, and exuberance it will still be irresistible. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera, Superbad) is an accidental heartbreaker, a Canadian slacker who obsesses over the girls who've dumped him but hardly realizes how he's dumped other girls. But everything else in his life (including playing bass in a band) fades to insignificance when he lays eyes on Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Live Free or Die Hard), his deadpan pixie dream girl. Unfortunately, Ramona has some serious baggage: seven deadly exes, and Scott must battle them all if he wants to date Ramona. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is saturated in pop culture, particularly video games. Many events make almost no sense, but it doesn't matter--sheer narrative ferocity and glee of invention sweep the viewer along. Cera pushes his geek/dork dreamboat persona to new heights of sweet twee-ness; if this movie doesn't shoot him into the stratosphere, we live in a cold, unfeeling universe, bereft of justice. The whole supporting cast (including Kieran Culkin, Jason Schwartzman, Anna Kendrick, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, and a host of less familiar but excellent young actors) plays every moment for all it's worth. This movie is supremely uncool and passionate, which makes it essential viewing.

Family loyalty and self-reliance take on whole new meanings in this dark story of one family's desperate struggle to survive in the Ozark woods of southern Missouri. Day-to-day life is tough in the economically depressed, unforgiving harsh rural landscape that's home to the extended Dolly clan, but it's made much tougher thanks to their history of cooking crank and deep involvement in the local drug culture. For Jessup Dolly and the other men of the family, looking out for oneself has become the first priority. Seventeen-year-old Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) has been caring for her mentally ill mother and her two younger siblings while her father runs from the law. Ree has been managing OK, but when the sheriff shows up with news that her father has put the house up as bond collateral and is unlikely to show for his court date, things get desperate. Ree is well aware of the family code of silence, but desperation forces her to confront her relatives in search of her father, regardless of the personal consequences. One by one, Ree's relatives refuse to help, protecting themselves even at the cost of one of their own. This is a dark, often violent film that doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of the manic drug culture permeating some rural areas of the South. It is intense, emotional, and extremely effective: it is at times simultaneously uncomfortable to watch and paradoxically riveting. Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, and Dale Dickey deliver phenomenally powerful performances and are completely believable in their respective roles. While this official selection in the dramatic film competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival doesn't align well with many of the details in the Daniel Woodrell novel on which it's based, what is absolutely faithfully rendered is the overwhelming sense of resolute self-reliance, complete desperation, and intense, yet distorted family loyalty

Toy Story 3 : DVD released on November 2, 2010

What made the original Toy Story so great, besides its significant achievement as the first-ever feature-length computer animated film, was its ability to instantly transport viewers into a magical world where it seemed completely plausible that toys were living, thinking beings who sprang to life the minute they were alone and wanted nothing more than to be loved and played with by their children. Toy Story 3 absolutely succeeds in the very same thing--adults and children alike, whether they've seen the original film or not, find themselves immediately immersed in a world in which Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), Ham (John Ratzenberger), Rex (Wallace Shawn), the aliens, and the rest of Andy's toys remain completely devoted to Andy (John Morris) even as he's getting ready to pack up and leave for college. Woody scoffs at the other toys' worries that they'll end up in the garbage, assuring them that they've earned a spot of honor in the attic, but when the toys are mistakenly donated to Sunnyside Daycare, Woody is the only toy whose devotion to Andy outweighs the promise of getting played with each and every day. Woody sets off toward home alone while the other toys settle in for some daycare fun, but things don't turn out quite as expected at the daycare thanks to the scheming, strawberry-scented old-timer bear Lots-o'-Huggin' (Ned Beatty). Eventually, Woody rejoins his friends and they all attempt a daring escape from the daycare, which could destroy them all. The pacing of the film is impeccable at this point, although the sense of peril may prove almost too intense for a few young viewers. Pixar's 3-D computer animation is top-notch as always and the voice talent in this film is tremendous, but in the end, it's Pixar's uncanny ability to combine drama, action, and humor in a way that irresistibly draws viewers into the world of the film that makes Toy Story 3 such great family entertainment. Meet the Characters

Woody Woody is a cowboy sheriff with a pull-string that, when pulled proclaims Woody's signature catchphrases from the 1950s TV show "Woody's Roundup." He's always been Andy's favorite toy. Even though his owner is now grown, the loyal sheriff Woody maintains a steadfast belief that Andy still cares about his toys. As the toys venture into their unknown future, Woody remains the voice of reason. As their dependable leader, he ensures that no toy gets left behind.	Buzz Lightyear Buzz Lightyear is a heroic space ranger action figure, complete with laser beam, karate-chop action and pop-out wings. Buzz is a boy's dream toy who becomes a quick favorite of young Andy, and the closest of buddies with Woody. Jessie Jessie is an exuberant, rough-and-tumble cowgirl doll who's always up for a daring adventure to help critters in need. With Andy's imminent departure hanging over the toys, Jessie is afraid of being abandoned by her owner once again. She takes charge, insisting that the toys take control of their own destinies. But is it a decision they'll later regret!	Rex Rex may look like the most fearsome dinosaur in the toy box, but this tyrannosaurus is one of the most lovable toys of the bunch. Despite his endless worrying and insecurities about his small roar, Rex always comes through for his pals.
Hamm A pink piggybank with a penchant for one-liners. He's still a know-it-all, or at least that's what he'd like everyone to believe.	Mr. Potato Head Mr. Potato Head is a wisecracking, hot-headed spud, complete with angry eyes. 4 glitziest ladies ever to hit Manhattan as a single force--Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte have been back again, in Sex and the City 2. They may become older, and a little wiser, but the pulls of love, lust, careers, and a pair of well-turned stilettos are still the focus of this Fab Four. As the women gamely face the prospect of aging--children, menopause, glass ceilings, and, in Carrie's opinion a fate worse than death--domesticity--they still manage to sparkle with the banter and great outfits that made the HBO series and the first film such hits. Sex and the City 2 opens with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) at the wedding of two of the foursome's favorite gay male friends, Stanford (Willie Garson) and Anthony (Mario Cantone). The wedding itself pulls out all the stops--in the true spirit of Sex and the City--and is one of the highlights of the film. From the no-holds-barred décor, including live swans, to the gay men's chorus singing show tunes while the guests arrive, the event is on the far side of over the top. As the guests settle into their seats, Miranda whispers, "Could this wedding be any gayer?" and as if on command, out comes Liza Minnelli, playing herself, to officiate. (Minnelli's performance is unexpectedly splendid, and her "wedding song" will wow all her fans--gay, straight, married, single.) Yet beneath the luscious glamour and the really bad hats (oh, Carrie, you should have resisted that harlequin feathered crown), the heroines are struggling with the not-so-glamorous realities of their lives. Charlotte and Harry (the always delightful and dependable Evan Handler) have two demanding young daughters--and a nanny from Ireland whose braless voluptuousness puts new meaning in the phrase "Irish spring," and who may be threatening their marriage. Miranda, ever the focused career gal, is getting nowhere fast at her law firm. And Carrie, now married to Mr. Big (Chris Noth), is chafing at the cozy staying-in and lying-low that she thinks spell death to romance. (It should be noted that vixen Samantha is still game for walking on the wild side. At the wedding she meets a handsome straight guy and asks him what he does for a living. "I lay concrete," he says. Samantha: "That sounds promising.") And for once there are no easy, glib answers to the real-life problem of the four stars, and Sex and the City 2 lets the characters actually grow up, at least a little. Which doesn't mean their fashions aren't fabulous. The film is also chock-a-block with great cameos, including Miley Cyrus, Project Runway's Tim Gunn, and Penélope Cruz. And longtime fans of the TV series will be happy to hear that Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis), Samantha's onetime flame, and Aidan (John Corbett), who once stole Carrie's heart, also make appearances. Sex and the City 2 is frothier than a shaken bottle of Champagne, and goes down as smoothly as a couple of appletinis. So fans, drink up!

The Oscar winner acquits himself nicely in the role of a gritty mercenary who finds himself stranded on a jungle planet with a host of criminals and professional killers (among them such scene-stealers as Walton Goggins and Danny Trejo), as well as a seemingly innocent doctor, well played by Topher Grace. They've been deposited there to serve as living targets for a horde of Predators--whose looks, designed by Gregory Nicotero and Howard Berger, are impressively varied and sleek--that use the planet as their private hunting grounds. Laurence Fishburne is also on hand as a soldier who has managed to survive for years in the jungle; he, Brody, and Grace do much to make the pulpy dialogue by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch (adapting a premise penned by Rodriguez in the mid-'90s) palatable. Likewise, Hungarian director Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) lends a great deal of atmosphere and Rodriguez-style momentum to the picture--perhaps more than necessary, since the end result is, like the 1987 original with Arnold Schwarzenegger, a fun B-movie and nothing more, designed entirely to give moviegoers a slick, unchallenging roller-coaster ride. Having said that, it's a vast improvement over the 1990 sequel and the dreadful tie-ins with the Alien franchise, and should provide movie monster aficionados with an afternoon's worth of thrills.

The toughest chick in Sweden returns to action in The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second film adaptation of the late author Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy novels. That would be Lisbeth Salander, once again played with quiet, feral intensity by Noomi Rapace. As Larsson's readers and anyone who saw the first film (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, also released in 2010) knows, Lisbeth is small in stature but big trouble for any man who crosses her--after all, this is the woman who set her father on fire after he abused her mother and later, after being released from a mental institution, took extreme revenge on her legal guardian after he brutally assaulted her (those scenes are briefly revisited for the enlightenment of those who missed the earlier film). Also back is investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist), Lisbeth's erstwhile lover and partner in solving the Dragon Tattoo mystery. When two of his young colleagues are killed while at work on a story about sex trafficking, followed shortly by the murder of the aforementioned guardian, Salander is the prime suspect. But Mikael is sure of her innocence; in fact, he's convinced she's the next victim, leading to a tangled tale in which Lisbeth learns more about her family and its very dark secrets than she ever wanted to know. The story is compelling, if a bit slow to take shape, and director Daniel Alfredson, taking over for Niels Arden Oplev, skillfully sustains the mystery and tension (there are also doses of nudity and violence, the latter much more graphic than the former). But Lisbeth isn't on screen nearly as much this time, and her relationship with Blomkvist, so central to Dragon Tattoo, is almost an afterthought. Still, The Girl Who Played with Fire will certainly whet fans' appetites for the next installment, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest; and considering the overall class and quality of these Swedish productions, one shudders to think how they'll turn out in the inevitable American versions, the first of which is due in 2011, with Daniel Craig as Blomkvist.

A winning mixture of adventure, slapstick comedy, and friendship, How to Train Your Dragon rivals Kung Fu Panda as the most engaging and satisfying film DreamWorks Animation has produced. Hiccup (voice by Jay Baruchel) is a failure as a Viking: skinny, inquisitive, and inventive, he asks questions and tries out unsuccessful contraptions when he's supposed to be fighting the dragons that attack his village. His father, chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), has pretty much given up on his teenage son and apprenticed him to blacksmith Gobber (Craig Ferguson). Worse, Hiccup knows the village loser hasn't a chance of impressing Astrid (America Ferrera), the girl of his dreams and a formidable dragon fighter in her own right. When one of Hiccup's inventions actually works, he hasn't the heart to kill the young dragon he's brought down. He names it Toothless and befriends it, although he's been taught to fear and loathe dragons. Codirectors and cowriters Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, who made Disney's delightful Lilo and Stitch, provide plenty of action, including vertiginous flying sequences, but they balance the pyrotechnics with moments of genuine warmth that make the viewer root for Hiccup's success. Many DreamWorks films get laughs from sitcom one-liners and topical pop culture references; as the humor in Dragon comes from the characters' personalities, it feels less timely and more timeless. Toothless chases the spot of sunlight reflected off Hiccup's hammer like a giant cat with a laser pointer; Hiccup uses his newly found knowledge (and an icky smoked eel) to defeat two small dragons--and impress the other kids. How to Train Your Dragon will be just as enjoyable 10 or 20 years from now as it is today.

A remake of the 1984 film of the same name, The Karate Kid well exceeds expectations, delivering a powerful viewing experience filled with action-packed martial arts scenes, great footage of China and its many wonders, and an absorbing story of a preadolescent boy's struggle to find his own inner strength. The title Karate Kid is really a misnomer as it is the art of kung fu that is practiced in this remake, not karate, and other details, including the film's setting in China, also differ from the original film. What remains the same, and just as powerful, is the underlying story: a young boy moves to a new place where he feels isolated and is bullied by his peers. Through an unlikely relationship with an adult, the boy not only learns to protect himself through martial arts, but develops the much more important qualities of respect and the mastery of one's own mind and body. Relative newcomer Jaden Smith (son of actors and producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith) is excellent as the main character Drek Parker; Jackie Chan gives a restrained and highly effective performance as his mentor Mr. Han; and Zhenwei Wang is eerily believable as the bully Chen. This is an intense and often violent film that fully engulfs its viewers--be prepared to gasp and cheer out loud, and know that you may never look at the act of putting on and taking off a jacket in the same way again.

One such note is found 50 years later by Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), a young American woman who is soon to be married and who yearns to become a writer. Her heartfelt answer to the letter serves as a catalyst for an epic romantic journey that will span continents and generations. The success of the film lies in the powerful interaction between the wistfully romantic and fully mature author of the letter, Claire (Vanessa Redgrave); the romantically idealistic Sophie; and Claire's overly pragmatic, downright cynical grandson Charlie (Christopher Egan), who grudgingly accompanies his grandmother on what he deems an insane quest to Verona to find her long lost love, Lorenzo. The filmmakers, writers, and actors all capitalize well on the comic possibilities of the situation, and there are more than a few good chuckles to be had at the absurdity of the interactions between these three very different characters, as they experience everything from hope and longing to disappointment and unexpected fulfillment. In the end, each character grows and changes profoundly as a result of their shared journey. Sure, the events portrayed in the film are highly unrealistic, but that doesn't change the fact that the film speaks to that innermost part of us all that, despite all logic, makes us want to believe that true love really does exist and that it just might triumph in the end.

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood actor is decidedly earthier and more adult than most raging in Sherwood Forest. The presence of the over-40 Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett harness the business, loans with a dose of worldliness, a project that can about the origins of the famous character who was obviously in this incarnation will be a late bloomer. Robin Longstride (that bore his name before he started a hood) just returned from a 10-year trip back in the Crusades, when he loses his king (Danny Huston as Richard the Lionheart) and his job. Back in England, Robin folds neatly into a family of Nottingham, where a grieving widow named Marion (Blanchett) and her father-in-law take care of (Max von Sydow) is hardly that he did not much like their own deceased warrior. But the funny men and their famous sideline will have to wait with the exception of a somewhat rob from the rich (ie, give the greedy government of King John) and the poor, this film is more with creating a portrait of the royal intrigue involved, in the creation of Robin Hood than in detailing the exuberance of Nottingham outlaws went. And that's not a bad thing, for though Robin Hood lack the mechanical action beats, differ most films of its size, it creates outlines a compelling story about his political chess game (by screenwriter Brian Helgeland and apparently a few others). Crowe is in reliable crusty-tender form and Blanchett charge more than her sketchy character probably deserves, but the film has a large cast of tough, fun Starring: Mark Strong (Kick-Ass) is mandatory as the villain the treacherous friend of John King (brushing Oscar Isaac), William Hurt as a brave and wise king's power brokers, Eileen Atkins is a deliberate royal mother, and Matthew Macfadyen is a Sheriff of Nottingham, is no longer the center of infamy - if not less for his inability hissable (and a likely candidate to end the film for the No. 1 villain in the sequel). In short, not a gladiator re-do for Scott and Crowe, but a civilized history of tyrants and rebels, staged in a pleasantly old-fashioned way.

Jake Gyllenhaal's doe eyes and bulging biceps will make some hearts flutter in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Dastan (Gyllenhaal), adopted prince of the Persian empire, must flee into the desert when accused of murdering his royal father--but a glass-handled dagger he found as loot from a captured city turns out to hold powerful time-manipulating magic. Not only is he pursued by his vengeful brothers, his scheming uncle (Ben Kingsley, Sexy Beast), and a strange cabal of assassins, but a princess/priestess named Tamina (Gemma Arterton, Quantum of Solace) wants the dagger back and will kill Dastan if she has to. Prince of Persia wants to be a rollicking adventure along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, it's hampered by clumsy dialogue and hard-to-follow action sequences, with choppy editing that wrecks the flow of the parkour-inspired stunts. But the production design is extravagant and every time Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2) appears as a greedy sheik the movie gets a delightful jolt of energy. Gyllenhaal doesn't have much to work with--Dastan is a fairly generic hero--and whoever designed his hair should have been fired on the first day, but his lazy charm comes through and carries him through the movie.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex O'Loughlin are perfect pitch film in the romantic comedy The back-up plan - a film as easily as the foam on a root beer float's, which, however, manages to be both romantic and very funny . Lopez, who after a long absence from the screen is a pleasure to watch - a perfect (and underrated) comedian, savings can and sparks with the best of their peers, and better than most. Lopez's chemistry with the dreamy O'Loughlin will engage the audience completely. Lopez plays Zoe, an intelligent woman whose dating life was dismal - and who decides ultimately become a single mother, so that they at least reach the motherhood she always desired. As fate would have it, she meets Mr. Perfect (Mr. or Close To It), O'Loughlin's Stan, on the same day she visited the clinic and is pregnant with twins. The early stages of their courtship include Zoe's increasingly desperate measures to hide her growing belly. In time, she confesses her condition Stan is thrilled - but roiling with hormones on both sides, and get the reality about the birth approaches, both Zoe and Stan cold feet. If the action of the back-up plan is a bit predictable, hold the power of both Lopez and flinty O'Loughlin involved the viewer entirely. Actor Eric Christian Olsen, as Zoe's best guy PAL, and the beautiful and funny Michaela Watkins (The New Adventures of Old Christine) turn in terrific performances, too, and cameos by veterans, including Albert Klein (as Zoe's hyperenthusiastic doctor), Tom Bosley Linda Lavin and round out the excellent ensemble of actors. The back-up plan also provides a binding soundtrack with a danceable tune of Lopez, "What Is Love?" and unforgettable songs by Colbie Caillat, India.Arie, and more. The back-up plan shows that love does not always go according to plan - OK, it never does - but it's worth the trip, but ultimately it is the heart.

This romantic tearjerker by the writer Nicholas Sparks (Dear John, The Notebook) can sometimes formulaic, but it remains interesting thanks to pace and snappy dialogue. Miley Cyrus'm sulking by The Last Song Teen Ronnie, who is her father (Greg Kinnear) angry divorce for Mom (Kelly Preston) and leave the family. A piano prodigy, refuses to Ronnie, after her father leaves the game, and they snubbed the admission to Julliard. Ronnie and her wisecracking brother Jonah (Bobby Coleman will be sent) to spend the summer with her father in a small beach town Georgia. Handsome townie want (Liam Hemsworth) strikes up a tense relationship with Ronnie, and true romance formula, they fall in love. Ronnie softened their stance and the ice between father and daughter begins to melt. But Dad has a tragic secret, and at the end, Ronnie's help to open their hearts and to heal. Cyrus is a predictable performance as the all-attitude Ronnie, but she is helped along by cute-little-brother shtick Coleman's (may be a little clumsy, but the boy is a scene-stealer). Veteran actors Kinnear and Preston are one-dimensional, but The Last Song is a harmless teen romance - who's watching the adults at all?

No more than 3 years after the 2007 Brit-com "Death at a Funeral" in the cinemas, this offered an almost scene for scene remake of variation to the original. Once again, a family gathered for the dignified funeral of a patriarch, elder son (Chris Rock) has prepared a eulogy, younger son (Martin Lawrence) has flown in on his fame as a bestselling author; favorite niece (Zoe Saldana) has brought her fiance ( James Marsden, Flipping out suspect), without that he inadvertently made a hallucinogen by their pharmaceutically-minded brother (Columbus Short, Cadillac Records included). You know, the usual fare for a funeral. The Joker is a stranger (Peter Dinklage, the only member of the cast of his role from the 2007 film repeat), which has something urgent to give the two sons. There is nothing terribly elevated on the slapstick, and a certain scatological sequence tests the limits of endurance (30 Rock's Tracy Morgan, unbounded in its usual form, takes the brunt of this scene). The unexpected director Neil LaBute, who shows off his sense of comic timing and keeps the entire apparatus to move along briskly. Besides the relatively subdued alternately by Rock and Lawrence, among the major actors Danny Glover, Regina Hall, Luke Wilson, and Loretta Devine. It is almost irrelevant to debate whether this version or ventilated improved the original, both hit their notes, which provide broad yuks and left feeling a mostly mechanical. But the task is completed - now rest in peace

Tyler Young Doherty (Tanner Maguire) faces his cancer with a strong spirit and good humor, and retains his faith in God through letters - letters which the postman of the new neighborhood, Brady McDaniels (Jeffrey Johnson), do not know how to handle. He gradually finds himself drawn into the McDaniels Doherty family life ... and created on lonely Tyler's mother, Maddy (Robyn Lively). Letters to God is serious and family friendly, with moments of slapstick humor to leaven Tyler's difficult circumstances. Each viewer response to letters to God is on his or her faith from, devout Christians will find it an uplifting and sincere testimony of the love of God, while non-Christians find it clumsy and saccharine. But it certainly is a polished production, with a professional camera, a written clean (if a little obvious) script and solid performances from the attractive cast.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are two of the most fascinating artists in entertainment today. Their attractiveness Goofy makes them a perfect couple in Date Night: an unassuming man and a woman from New Jersey, they receive for crooks in Manhattan is wrong and sends them on a wild night full of snooty waiters and waitresses, crooked cops, glitter speckled-strippers, a shirtless super spy (Mark Wahlberg, as buff as ever), and a bizarre chase. The film makes no effort to be remotely plausible, and the final third is really out of joint, and it would probably be better served by less familiar faces in supporting roles (bit parts by Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, Common, James Franco, played Mila Kunis, William Fichtner, and Ray Liotta). It is disappointing that the dialogue does not crackle as it goes on 30 Rock or office. But Fey and Carell the film take by sheer pluck along nerdy. Rarely has a couple really seems in a film devoted to each other, not from wild passion, but for all the things that a real marriage is built on: patience, humor, share a willingness to deal with day-to-day annoyances and simple affection. Carell and Fey look like a couple would actually enjoy going out to dinner with. In today's world, which is more than romantic sunsets and bouquets of roses.

After the high-flying adventures of the first "Iron Man" image may billionaire playboy Tony Stark manufacturers and irrepressible (Robert Downey Jr.) is nursing a hangover. But not like any cat, he's had before: this is toxic, a potentially fatal condition due to heavy metals (or something) bleeding from the hardware-it is installed in the center of the chest. That's the problem must Stark in Iron Man 2 not, vindictive to the threat of the Russian science whiz helped Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), whose father, solve mention the "Iron Man" technology. There is an even greater problem for the film: the need for establishing a future Marvel Comics movie universe in which forces a large number of veteran characters, a requirement slowed, what by-line can produce the film (although join fanboys have a good time dig the notes here) set. Actually, the main plot no great shakes: Iron Man suit other is used (Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard in the first film, learns to climb), to argue still Strong with assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and a weaselly competitor (Sam Rockwell) attempts out-do the Iron Man suit with an army of drones Vanko developed. Mickey Rourke is a disappointment, burdened by a shaky Russian accent, and looked around skeptical about the genre foolishness to him, and Scarlett Johansson has to wait until the final few roles to unleash some butt-kickin 'abilities as the future of Black Widow. The highlight is sufficiently vivid, and the first half hour, including smirky appearance before a Senate committee Stark and a crazy showdown at the Grand Prix of Monaco offers a strong, quick opening. But the pause between these highlights is crying for more action and more Downey Improv.

The cinematic equivalent of a half case of Red Bull chased with donuts, Kick-Ass is a giddy, violent experience--and not your average superhero movie. Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., it offers a set of heroes who are decidedly without superpowers: Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decides he'll be just like a comic-book character, and puts on a ridiculous green suit to fight crime as the mysterious Kick-Ass. Luckily, somebody else had the same idea and comes along to rescue the incompetent crusader: Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz), who also happen to be running around town wearing masks and vanquishing evil. And here we have the movie's masterstroke: Hit Girl, a pint-sized preteen who slaughters bad guys and swears like a sailor on leave (and was the focus of a measure of controversy when the movie was released). The main target of our heroes is a gangster (Mark Strong, Sherlock Holmes), whose neglected son (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, McLovin from Superbad) figures he might just pull on a costume himself and become… Red Mist! (One of the many funny things about Kick-Ass is that the superhero names are hopelessly lame.) Director Matthew Vaughn is operating at the same glib level as his Layer Cake, with cutesy song cues galore and a freewheeling appetite for cartoon violence. This means the movie's high wears off quickly, but it does get high--a crazy, hilarious (and by the way: decidedly R-rated) kick. All that, plus Nicolas Cage executes a deadly Adam West imitation when he pulls on his cape and cowl. That's entertainment.

"Release the Kraken!" it could only Clash of the Titans, the 2010 remake, that the statement be kept to unleash the great creatures of the sea. The 1981 original boasted legendary Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation technique various mythological creatures - it was his last feature project - and given the Cornball approach of the film in general that was the main draw. The remake provides new state-of-the-art special effects (released in 3-D) and a nice muscular sense of momentum. Sam Worthington (Avatar Guy) plays Perseus, a demi-god who does not know that, Zeus (Liam Neeson) is his father. Perseus is selected, an expedition to find and kill the Medusa, so evil brother of Zeus, Hades (Ralph Fiennes, in his sneak mode) upset misery on a port - and you know is coming, that means the octopus. Ye gods, it's a mess, and we have not even mentioned the witches and harpies and the Giant Scorpions. But if we did that, it would be clear that Clash of the Titans a perfectly dandy popcorn epic, is unpretentious and penetrating. Director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2) is replaced by a fine rhythm going while Perseus Trek, and you can even forgive hokey waves-of-light-through-clouds seen from Olympus. Leterrier also had the good sense to Danish star Mads Mikkelsen, the wonderful import duties to offer mentoring Perseus, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos meet the eye-candy roles. It is up to individual viewers to choose which they prefer - Harryhausen's magical hand-forged creations (his Medusa-sequence is an absolute killer) or the 21st Century slick computer-generated variations. But nostalgia aside, it would be hard to deny that this is a case where the remake tops, is the original.

In the bouncy romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler aim to be a contemporary Nick and Nora for an audience that's never even heard of The Thin Man. Ex-cop-turned-bounty hunter Milo Boyd (Butler, 300) is ecstatic when he gets his new assignment: his ex-wife, reporter Nicole Hurley (Aniston), has skipped bail to pursue a breaking story. Naturally, when he catches her, he also gets caught up in the mystery--though the mystery is really just an excuse for quirky comic bickering between the estranged lovebirds. Refreshingly, the script has the kind of off-beat rhythms and flavors of comedy-action flicks like Midnight Run, Out of Sight, and Something Wild, and the supporting cast (featuring Christine Baranski, Mamma Mia!; Peter Greene, Pulp Fiction; Jeff Garlin, Curb Your Enthusiasm; Siobhan Fallon, Saturday Night Live; Cathy Moriarty, Raging Bull; and beloved character actress Carol Kane) is a colorful collection of great faces and pungent personalities. It's unfortunate that the leads are a tad bland; Aniston and Butler aren't bad, but they don't have the snap, crackle, and pop that the movie craves. Nonetheless, The Bounty Hunter rises above the average Hollywood rom-com.

Brooklyn's Finest follows three NYPD cops, which may be from different places (both geographically and personally), but their lives and the compromises they come every day with the streets of Brooklyn, dovetail to a climax that has the audience on the edge next to each other their seats . Fuqua has a star cast here, including Richard Gere, a veteran of the COP only a week gathered out of retirement, which can repeatedly surprisingly, Don Cheadle, an undercover officer whose loyalty to the force by his growing loyalty to the groups he infiltrating be affected, and the film true revelation, Ethan Hawke, a young corrupt police officers, whose morality makes the stomach turns when Hawke's performance is nuanced and riveting. Supporting cast members include Wesley Snipes as a badass gangster whom even the police second thoughts about messing with. Other great performances are from Vincent D'Onofrio, whose wooden delivery works here to make his character all the more dangerous, Lili Taylor, and a gorgeous, world-weary Ellen Barkin. The action is propelled along by the great benefits, excellent camera, Fuqua's skillful direction, and the score by Brazilian composer Marcelo Zarvos Moody. If the plot is a little far-fetched, even for a crime drama, which make up more than excellent performance, so that one of Brooklyn's Finest Fuqua's, and certainly Hawke's finest

Colin Firth is the performance of a lifetime in a single man, a drama directed and adapted for the screen by fashion designer Tom Ford, who is clearly a clever vision and ability in the world of film as well. A Single Man is on a novel by Christopher Isherwood and Ford's based - and Firth's - Gifts brings the anxiety-world of the novel, to be credible and devastating, life on the screen. Firth is best as a dashing romantic comedy heroes (Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones, the movies must be known), but it shows people in a single nuance and depth, with the viewer long after the film past will remain. Firth plays George, a British professor Gay, a life of true, if closeted, happiness prudish with his partner, Jim (Matthew Goode), in the early 60s. When Jim died suddenly at the beginning of the film, wrestles with George as it continues to go without his true love - and never in a position to comment on the his grief openly. The film flashes back scenes of George and Jim and their dogs, scenes awash in warm tones, and then forward into the present, subtle shot in sepia, show the joy that was missing from George's life. However, there are flashes of hope and the feeling that one short scene - shows George's as a dog like you had owned the pair, and drew his face close to the dog for a familiar and soothing fragrance - takes only a moment resonates still, that Grief and loss are the same for all felt, no matter what they have lost. A Single Man's cast also Julianne Moore, plays a complex role as George's best friend and lover a long time ago - one of the few people on this planet who can all know that George goes through, but with great weaknesses of their own. Nicholas Hoult plays a student who reaches out to George said, "I think I just thought you looked like you could use a friend." But Firth's who triumphed in the film, and who drives the complex emotions - all true, all rewarding - that a single man hold up and give it its effects. A single man can be against "Brokeback Mountain to hold" as a story of love and loss that each genre goes.

Fans of Stieg Larsson's Men Who Hate Women on how the Swedish author of the novel would be to have deals to translate to the screen, but they need not fear. Significant changes have been made of the source material, but director Niels Arden Opley's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as it is called now, is often riveting. As the story begins, in middle age investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) is only a mock charge of defamation against hotshot was a rich and corrupt corporate if he is unexpectedly offered a most unusual concert convicted. An aging captain of industry named Henrik Vang (Sven-Bertil Taube) wants Blomkvist to find out what happened to Vang's niece, who disappeared more than 40 years ago not only the old man is convinced that she was murdered, but he suspected that another member of his large and rather unpleasant family (including several former Nazis) is the culprit. Blomkvist takes the job, which includes spending at least six months on an isolated island in the middle of winter, Vange. But he does not know is that it spied on by twentysomething Lisbeth Salander (Rapace Naomi brilliant in a career-making power play), the licensee Girl and the owner of a remarkable abilities as a detective and computer hackers. With their gothlike piercings and all-black clothes, Lisbeth is a living character to say the least. Even though we do not know, the details of their dark past, it obviously still assigned to her, yes, she has just passed a new "guards" (as a probation officer) to look for his finances and other matters. We also know that they are not Mess with someone, if the guardian turns out to be a thoroughly nasty monsters, Lisbeth get back to him in one of the sequences satisfying revenge of the recent past. The Mikael and Lisbeth was the end, the cooperation, and more, is not particularly surprising. But discovering the gruesome details and depths of depravity while they are working on the case (parallels to The Silence of the Lambs facile but adequate) and are definitely Opley has to keep a nice job it all straight. On more than two and a half hours the film is long, with its share of Grim, graphic and scary moments, but the girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a winner.

The legal thriller meets the Shocker serial-killer in Law Abiding Citizen. The story begins when the home invaders to kill Clyde Shelton's wife and daughter. The bereaved father (played by Gerard Butler indifferent) seems spot in Philadelphia prosecutor Nick Rice (low Jamie Foxx) to see that they receive the maximum penalty. Instead, the murderer, Ames, testifying against his accomplice, Darby, who won the presidency, as he gets 10 years. After his release, the maimed body of Ames' appears in an abandoned warehouse, and all roads lead to Shelton. Rice tries to defend his client but makes it impossible - Shelton wants to go to jail - so long ago, but then the members of the legal team of Rice's home to die. A lawyer for the suspects Shelton, but can not connect to the crimes, so that racing against time to save the life of his assistant, Sarah (Leslie Bibb), DA Jonas (Bruce McGill) and his own wife and son. The film may sound like a restart of the pull of the Japanese healing cooling, which kills an inmate from within the institutional walls, but plays more like a mash-up between the silence of the lambs, without the psychological complexity , and The Devil's Advocate, not the cynical laughter. F. Gary Gray began his career in hip-hop videos and urban action films like Set It Off, to get where they want with their remake of The Italian Job. Law Abiding Citizen is a disappointing mess of a director who has done better in the past and surely will do better in the future.

Now this is the way to destroy the world. 2012 Roland Emmerich is released in a style of Nostradamus-empty in the Mayan calendar and sheep, the apocalypse through it, with glee the evocation of a huge amount of fun matinee Saturday and in the process. A scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor) detects the change of continental plates and flares from the sun and realize that it predicts the imminent destruction of the planet. As molten lava is about to hit the fan, a writer (John Cusack) takes his children on a trip to Yellowstone, then all alone with his ex (Amanda Peet) and her new boyfriend (Tom McCarthy), on a trip Overall toward safety. If there is any security. The appropriately hair-raising plot lines are scored - often, people often - the visions of chaos around the world: the Vatican goes down, the White House beat (Emmerich, Independence Day did not was sufficient in that respect), and the California coast sinks into the Pacific Ocean. Unlike other action directors who could name, Emmerich really understand how you can see and drink in these special extensive view effects - and they are incredible. It also pays tribute to disaster-old Irwin Allen tradition movie really paying for good actors. Cusack and Ejiofor are convincing even the most cheesy material, toss in Danny Glover (President of the USA), Woody Harrelson (a nutty conspiracy bar theorizing radio announcer), Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt, and have a very watchable lot of people. Emmerich has not developed an ear for dialogue, even at this stage of his career, and the final act goes a bit too long. This film is very silly, but if you have a weakness for the B-energy film and escapes a hair, 2012 offers a bit of both.

If there was a zombie apocalypse and you're road-trip though the desert alone, could do worse than run in Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a bourbon-drinking bad boy-butt-kicker with a really good car. This is where the hero careful Zombieland, a boy nicknamed Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), is at the beginning of the movie and can hardly be blamed for that hitch a ride with this man arrogant Alpha. However, they have their hands full, not just mumbling zombies, but with two sisters (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin) who will stop at nothing to achieve as a Disneyland amusement park in Los Angeles Although Zombieland comes down to a beginning difficult to Columbus too cute narration (which has a list of rules for surviving the zombie world), sits in a comedy, regularly interrupted by episodes of bloodshed. The road-trip is enough fun stuff when the film is in its version of Disneyland, the air comes out a little, sure, there is a giant zombie outbreak, with the entrails of flight, but not exactly the same. Director Ruben Fleischer keeps the gags coming, though the film is often more fun in their odd little asides (Eisenberg and Harrelson are both experts in this) that in his official jokes. Comic highest point: an interlude in the house of a famous movie star, who plays himself - and leave the spoiler virgin, in case anyone has not heard of this funny extended cameo.

Add Jane Campion, rich, sensual, exciting quietly Bright Star to the very short list of films admirable writers. In this case, the writer John Keats (Ben Whishaw), the Romantic poet who died at age 25 thinking himself a failure. The movie, set in his last years, focuses on friendship and playful with the evolution of love for Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), the independent-minded young man who lived near Hampstead Village and was, in its way, an art spirit . Complete a full constellation ineffable - is not exactly a love triangle - is the host of Keats Charles Armitage Brown (Paul Schneider), who loves, appreciates, and refers to Keats with pride and envy, and engages in tacit rivalry Fanny. The three performances are excellent, with Whishaw add to your gallery of artist (the murderer obsessed olfactorily perfume, one of the Bob Dylans in I'm Not There), and Cornish and Schneider functions taking top honors in 2009. As in The Campion, Piano, others are part of the central story, and have identities, personalities, and states that intelligence and understanding to appreciate without having to announce in the dialogue. Kerry Fox (a wild redhead girl Campion angel at my table for almost two decades) evokes the mother of Fanny, with broad strokes, and Fanny's younger sister and brother are vigilant presence and, indeed, co-conspirators in courtship. In addition, Bright Star is the rare period film to convey - without being pushy - what it was like living in another era, the nature of houses and rooms and how people occupied, the windows so people linked sites and extend lives and experiences, such as fires and the sunlight warms English milky no. And there's always a feeling of being alive on place and time, the creaking of the wooden walkway underfoot and the wind noise, as lovers of the cane to walk through a wetland. The poetry grows out of these things, at least, Jane Campion does.

Largely dismissed as yet another Alien carbon, the hybrid Pandorum science-fiction/horror beyond the scope of this criticism with a nice mix of atmospherics and high-voltage shocks. Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid - two actors always watchable, and they also used here - are top-billed as a pair of space travelers who awakens from hibernation along and no idea who they are or how they got on board a huge and apparently empty spaceship. His exploration of the ship discovers not only a handful of human beings, including the martial arts champion Cung Le and French scientist / Eye Candy Antje Traue necessary, but a series of mutants of wild boar with designs on them unpleasant. Director Christian Alvert, which gained international recognition among viewers with its antibody thriller genre, it keeps you committed and unresolved in the shadow of the impregnated film developed and creepy production design, though his own attention span, which can be described as charity blink and miss it obscures the clashes between human and monster cast. Making honest action movies has become so rare that magnificent Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker has shown especially in art houses instead of multiplexes. That's fine, the image is a work of art. But it also offers more excitement kinetics, yielded more breath hold, putting more-you-get-right in the danger zone that the brains of all dead, visually incoherent demolition derby hogging the screens of the mall. This is partly a matter of subject. The film focuses on a team of explosive ordnance disposal, the boys whose more or less a day of work is to disarm homemade bombs that have accounted for most U.S. casualties in Iraq. But even more, the extraordinary tension of the film derives from the precision and intelligence of the leadership of Bigelow. She gets all sweaty tactical details and nuances in the foreground the clash of man and the bomb, while remaining alert to surround reality inevitably volatile foreign environment - hot streets and white-walled buildings full of onlookers, some curious and some hostile, perhaps turning over a mobile phone could become a trigger. This is moviemaking copy. Judi and Ron Barrett's cloudy with a chance of meatballs is a lovely, a whimsical book about a small island where food falls from the sky like rain. The book serves as a starting point for the animation from Sony, 3-D digital cloudy with a chance of meatballs, which is not so much a narrative of the book as an exploration of what makes food that rain from the sky on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Flint (Bill Hader), a smart young inventor, with a reputation for the creations that went wrong, has recently completed a machine that he says turn water into food. Like his past failed inventions, new foods Flint conversion machine does not work as planned, and its initial test run ends by getting thrown into the sky where clouds form and rain begin to hamburgers. Nine small rag dolls, sewn of jute and operation of the watch and glasses are all that stands in the way of the world to be struck by the machines. In fact, 9 starts, it seems that the machines have had their way with the Earth: this is a post-apocalyptic landscape without life, hope, or sunlight. 9 It is clear that the Director Shane Acker is willing to make an animated film that do not fire with the colors of Disney or Pixar mind - indeed, the main characters are killed before the movie halfway. Our hero is 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood), named for the number on the back, after awakening to consciousness confusing encountered with the survivors of puppets, such as pressing 1 (Christopher Plummer), the warrior as 7 (Jennifer Connelly), and the one-eyed comic 5 (John C. Reilly). That fight with the machines in a relentless (and eventually monotonous) series of battles, and the hardware of the explosion and the endless war has a tendency to crowd out any character development could have been created in the first minutes. No doubt film design is impressive and the characters are wonderfully expressive quality at first. But at some point it seems that machines have taken over the creation of films here, with tedious results.

A provocative sci-fi drama, District 9 has an original story that gets a little lost in the blow-'em-up chaos. Set in Johannesburg, South Africa, District 9 begins as a mock documentary about the impending eviction of the aliens in a poor pathetic (called District 9). The creatures, it turns out have been on Earth for years, having arrived sick and starving. He initially received by human beings with compassion and care, foreigners are now mired in deteriorating conditions typical of the refugee camps long term unwanted by a hostile society, countries. With care of the creatures by contract to a nonprofit corporation, the neighborhood has become a violent neighborhood. The aliens sift through huge piles of garbage, while their carers in secret weapons research technology that arrived in the spaceship of the visitors.

Against this backdrop is a more personal story about a bureaucrat named Wikus (Sharlto Copley) who is accidentally exposed to a substance that alters the DNA. As metamorphosis begins in one of the creatures, Wikus going to the careers of scientists who wish to collect their evolution, new parts and foreigners who see it as a threat. When paired with an alien secretly planning an escape from the Earth, however, which should be a fascinating relationship becomes a series of shootings and explosions. Nuance is lost to numb to violence and the most interesting potential of the film darkens. However, during a time District 9 is a powerful movie with a unique story to tell. Seamless special effects alone are worth seeing: the (often brutal) exchanges between the alien and human are impressive.

The dark forces loom around every corner, and now regularly attempt to penetrate the protected walls of Hogwarts School. This is not fun and fascinating world of magic of the first books is dark, dangerous and scary.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) suspects Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) is a new recruit Death Eaters in a special mission for the Dark Lord. Inside his mind , has a secret key in the battle to defeat the Dark Lord, and Harry is tasked to find a memory Dumbledore on Voldemort's dark weapon - the Horcrux. Despite the long list of distractions, Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) still trying to focus on teenagers are, and the public can enjoy the awkward budding romances. All the actors have developed very well, giving his most convincing performances to date.

The most dramatic and significant things down in this movie than any of his predecessors, and the risks are greater than ever. The creators have taken on a challenge virtually impossible, as fans of the beloved JK Rowling series of books on film desperately wants to capture the magic of books to the greatest extent possible. Unfortunately, the point at which it is accepted that these two media are very different is the point at which one can truly enjoy these brilliant adaptations. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is no exception: it may be the best film yet. For those who have not read the book, nailbiting entertainment is guaranteed.The key dramatic scenes, including the cave and the surprising twist in the last chapter, run very well. It is a perfect job of creating the two parts of the grand finale that will follow.

But while Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon can not be It's a Wonderful Life, George and Mary Bailey, Four Christmases is a modern holiday classic in its own right. First, all neuroses and dysfunctions of the family are rooted in the four sets of characters Vaughn and Witherspoon, Brad and Kate - and the elegant yuppie facade built with each other is about to collapse. There are real belly laughs unexpectedly when the couple has to spend the holidays with their four groups of extended families. "I will not speak ill of her mother for Christmas," growled Howard (Robert Duvall) son Brad, while every last bullnecked brothers are fighting Brad rassling of sight, "but is more than a common street whore." J.J. 2009 Abrams film was rated as "not your father's Star Trek," but his father probably love it anyway. And what is love? It has enough action, the emotional impact, humor and pure fun for any movie buff, and Trekkers will enjoy a lot of insider references and a cast that seems ideal to portray the characters we know will be later. Both a prequel and a reboot, Star Trek introduces us to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine from The Princess Diaries 2), an acute man but aimless young man who is pushed by a Starfleet captain, Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), to obtain and make a difference. At the Academy, Kirk runs afoul of a commander called Vulcan Spock (Zachary Quinto of Heroes), but the conflict must take a back seat when Starfleet, including its newest ship, the Enterprise must respond to an emergency call of Vulcan. What follows is a moving account of genocide and retaliation launched by a Romulan (Eric Bana) with a particular interest in Spock, and we see the crew families meet, as McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin) and Scottie (Simon Pegg).

The action and visual effects make for a great dramatic movie screen, though the plot of Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who worked together in transformers and with Abrams on Alias and Mission Impossible III), and its makers (partners Damon Lindeloff survivors and Bryan Burk) can be a bit more of a hallucinogen (no surprise to fans of Lost). Hardcore fans with a bone to pick can find fault, but resistance is futile when you can see Kirk take on the Kobayashi Maru scenario or hear the bark McCoy, "Damn, man, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" An appearance by Leonard Nimoy and listen to the end of Majel Barrett Roddenberry as the voice of the computer by simply sweeten the pot. Now comes the hard part: waiting for some consequences of this terrible consequence.

1973 John Godey's novel The Taking of Pelham One Two Three has a suspenseful situation safely even bad habits as director Tony Scott can not ruin this latest version of the film. Four gunmen seize a subway train in New York, isolating a car, and threaten to start killing the passengers if a ransom is not paid within the hour. The rescue was a million dollars in the book and also in the solid film in 1974, Joseph Sargent, in which Robert Shaw played the main mercenary kidnappers and Walter Matthau was the snarling traffic cop trying to outsmart him. In 2009, the title has gone digital - The Taking of Pelham 123 - and inflation triggered the selling price to $ 10 million. If Shaw was a threat of steel, John Travolta, opt for manic and blatantly has a blast at the main villain. The Rise of Cobra is not G.I. his grandfather Joe. It's more like C.G.I. Joe with explosive special effects sequences of action that provide the film with a surplus of "Boom Boom Pow" (to quote the Black Eyed Peas song that drives the final credits). This blast from the past summer is very similar to that of metal nano-missile mite eating a (literally) Mad Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt recovery in some of its indie-rock spirit) and McCullen, a Scottish arms dealer (Christopher Eccleston ), threaten to liberate the world. It never stops. Ever. The G.I. Original Joe action figure was a hero to all Americans. These are Joes - all together - "the best of the best," an elite squad of different nationalities. Two soldiers, Duke (Channing Tatum an amateur), a "field, in the fight" type of person, and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), his best friend funny, are rescued by the Joes after being ambushed while transporting missiles. These are not regular Joes. Snake-Eyes (Ray Park) is a silent ninja, Stella (Rachel Nichols) a bodacious Brainiac, Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), a specialist in the imposition of arms, and Breaker (Said Taghamaoui) the techie. They are led by General harsh Hawk (Dennis Quaid), who barks at lines like, "When all else fails, we do not", with the enamel. Duke and Ripcord are recruited to join the unit after qualifying Duke discovers that Ana (Sienna Miller), his former girlfriend, is in cahoots with McCullen and now sports the nickname of claims of the baroness, let alone division for murderer improve latex costumes. This is the first of a budding franchise, lots of back story to cover. The flashbacks dating back to 1641! But the agenda is the underground military command centers, underwater dens of evil, shining high-tech weaponry, persecution of vertigo, and cool gadgets such as hydraulic demand an accelerated rate. It's enough to make you want to dust off your original action figures from Hasbro, or study, without doubt, hope and buy new ones.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opens with the family of prehistoric sewn-together to become a biological: Manny (voiced by Ray Romano) and his partner Ellie (Queen Latifah) are expecting a baby mammoth. Unfortunately, this makes Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary) feel left out. Diego, who worries he's losing his edge, he decides to go it alone, while Sid adopts three suspiciously large eggs has found through a crack in the ice. At this point, the film is dangerously cheesy - does anyone, especially a child, wants to see a movie for children about parenthood and middle age is coming? Fortunately, the eggs turn out to be dinosaur eggs from a pre-underworld of mammals, and when the mother T-Rex comes to rescue their loved little naughty, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is transformed into a delicious comic adventure. The emotional side of the Ice Age movies has always been a little sickly, so it is wise that the dawn of the dinosaurs emphasis on physical comedy. Clearly, the animators were inspired by a wild fusion of Road Runner cartoons and Buster Keaton. Scratte's character, with their non-verbal, efforts to get past acorn monomaniac (twice in this film with the addition of a female equivalent) is just the most obvious reflection of this sensitivity. The animators have fun with the differences in scale between mammals and dinosaurs, and the introduction of a weasel of Australia upset named Buck (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead) pushes throughout Loony Tune. Pixar that tug at our emotions intended Ice Age make you laugh out loud and does a good job of it.

Rom-com favorite Sandra Bullock and excellent chemistry affable Ryan Reynolds charming turn of the proposal otherwise standard romantic comedy fare to one that is fun and safe to harvest laughs. Margaret (Sandra Bullock) is a workaholic, tyrannical publisher of books (reminiscent of The Devil Wears Prada), who suddenly finds her career in jeopardy, as could be deported back to Canada. His solution is simply to feign a commitment to their unsuspecting assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who then blackmails him for a promotion. However, when Margaret is forced to head to Alaska with Andrew to visit his family in an effort to make their story believable deportation officers, they soon realize that his plan can not be so simple after all. The supporting cast of the father (Craig T. Nelson), mother (Mary Steenburgen), and somewhat eccentric grandmother (Betty White is still a thief in scene-87) is larger than casting makes for many funny scenes. Conclusion: Reynolds witty and Bullock are perfect sparring partners for each other and not too bad to see well.

Corinne (Barbie) is the daughter of a musketeer and grew up wanting to be a musketeer and hard training to become an excellent swordsperson. When it starts to Paris to join the Musketeers, until your cover letter does not win anything but laugh at Captain Treville and the all-male Musketeers. Forced to take a job as housekeeper of the castle, Corinne soon discovers that his three fellow housewives have also dreamed and trained to become musketeers. Even more surprising is that the senior housekeeper had dreams similar to those of a child. The elderly housekeeper provides training for the three young men, encouraging them to strive for what was an absolute impossibility of his generation. Like the prince is about to become king, strange accidents begin to occur around the castle - the Musketeers accidents men seem unable to avoid. Could these unfortunate events provide an opportunity for Corinne and her friends to show his extraordinary skill with the sword? Although the concept of Barbie as a sword-wielding musketeer may seem strange initially, the film is as credible as other productions of Barbie and Barbie is refreshing to see on paper a little less overtly "feminine. Barbie final quote sums it all: "The real courage is pursuing his dream, even when everyone says it's impossible." (Ages 3 to 7)
