X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) : DVD released on Sep. 15, 2009

Wolverine, fan favorite of the X-Men universe in both comic books and film, gets his own film vehicle X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a story that reached way, way back in the hairy mutant story. Somewhere in the wilderness of northwest Canada in early 1800, two boys growing up amid violence: half-brothers with special powers. Eventually, they will almost indestructible warriors (and victims of a super-secret government program) known as Wolverine and Saber Tooth, respectively played by Hugh Jackman (return to his role) and Liev Schreiber (new on the scene). It helps enormously to Schreiber, an actor of muscular skills, like the show iest villain, the man can bring a real threat in vocal inflection or shift of the eyes. Danny Huston is the sinister government operative whose experiments into Pullin 'Wolverine back, Lynn Collins, the Canadian woman who shares a peaceful co-existence with our hero when he tries to drop the program, Ryan Reynolds adds needed humor at any case for a while. The fast-paced early roles give an entertaining kick-off to the Wolverine saga, just to delay when a good plot must be constructed - but not for the problem of the origin stories? And despite a cool environment, the grand finale is a bit hemmed by certain plot essentials to be taken for the consequences, which may be why the characters do absurd things. So, this is fun while it lasts, if you were not looking for a masterpiece, or an explanation for Wolverine's face grooming.
