Valkyrie : DVD released on May 19, 2009

Unpretentious and dramatically simple, Valkyrie is a suspenseful yet ennobling story of the last attempt to murder Adolf Hitler prior to the end of the Second World War. Tom Cruise is effective if a bit opaque as hero Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who channels his anger at Hitler's atrocities and mismanagement of the war through a secret organization bent on killing the Führer. When Stauffenberg out hits on the idea of linking Hitler's death with an official policy for the protection of Berlin during a government crisis - a plan called "Valkyrie" - the group has a post-assassination coup could be covered by the rapid implementation of the plan. History tells us the story, of course, and Hitler himself slain months later. But that does not stop Cruise and director Bryan Singer of approaching the film as a thinking person thriller, told from the conspirators' camp, where the result of their actions were uncertain for several tense hours.
In the tradition of The Great Escape, Valkyrie is a war film full of familiar faces, including Kenneth Branagh, Terence Stamp, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard.
